Technical support

 Q1. Where upload my files to? Is it public_html?

When you use FTP or a file manager to upload your files please make sure you put your files into the public_html directory. Files in your public_html directory can then be accessed on the internet.

For example if I upload contactme.html to public_html for mydomain.com you could access that file at www.mydomain.com/contactme.html. Files not inside the folder public_html will not be available on the Internet.

 Q2. What version of Perl comes installed on your servers?

Perl v5.8.5 with Crypt::SSLeay module v0.51

 Q3. What version of PHP does UK Web Host run?

You can use different versions of PHP by changing the extension on the script in question. To use PHP4 with a script, leave its extension as .php. If you want to use PHP5 with a script, change the extension to .php5.

If you wish to default all .php scripts in your hosting space to use PHP5, but do not want to change the extension, place this line into a .htaccess file in your FTP space.

SetEnv DEFAULT_PHP_VERSION 5

 Q4. What version of MySQL comes installed on your servers?

MySQL v5.0.26

 Q5. What is the path to Perl?

/usr/bin/perl

You can also find information on paths to other useful programs by logging in to your UK Web Host Control Panel and selecting 'Website Diagnostics', from there just select 'Paths and Versions'.

Note that if you are writing CGI scripts in Perl, the first line of the script should be the path to perl, prefixed with '#!', i.e., '#!/usr/bin/perl'.

 Q6. What version of ASP comes installed on your servers?

At UK Web Host in order for us to provide the highest levels of support and functionality, we exclusively use Linux based servers with ASP support provided using Sun ONE ASP (also known as Chilisoft ASP). As such, Windows® based ASP components, ASP.NET (and .NET2) are not supported at present. If you do require any of these you will require a Windows hosting environment.

 Q7. What is the path to sendmail?

Should you need the absolute path to sendmail for use in a CGI script, it's in /usr/sbin/sendmail. You can also find information on paths to other useful programs by logging in to your UK Web Host Control Panel and selecting 'Website Diagnostics', from there just select 'Paths and Versions'.
